Spectulative Design

For our third design project on Digital Media BA at University of Leeds, we are tasked with spectulative design. For this, I conducted thorough research into issues surrounding technology in the media, and how this could affect a future society. I named my society ‘The Level-Up Society’. The concept I have created is run by a brand named ‘Known Tech’, but funded by the goverment. The scheme means that every civilian must have a hologram of details above their heads, listing their name and key details about them for identification. This is a dystopian-centred idea, where a child must have a hologram from birth registration. Alongside this, to ‘Level-Up’in society is to access more facillities, and removies the idea of free wil. My feature of being able to upgrade early with a high up-fromt payment is a reference to classism in media societies, where in ‘The Level-Up Society’ you can purchase basic human rights.

My design is bland and cold, a reflection of dystopia in this ideology, and I have designed a concept visulisation of both the holograms and the ‘Level-Up System’. My designs were al created in ilustrator, where i relied on vector tracing and geomentrical shapes to create my final designs.
